Recreation Grounds

The Spoute Recreation Ground

At the bottom of The Street, and through the passage alongside Hyders Forge, is the Spoute Recreation Ground.  It is a wide open space and offers a safe play area for children of all ages.   It contains a small playground with swings and a climbing frame.  There is a football pitch with goals and nets, as well as a basketball hoop.  A picnic table is provided along with some benches.  At the bottom of the playground the Bourne river runs.  Care of course should be taken around the river.  It is also the location for the annual Plaxtol Duck race.  This is held on the first bank holiday Monday in May every year.

The Garrett Memorial Ground

With access from Long Mill Lane, this space is a hidden gem of the village.  Full of fruit trees, it has a picnic bench to allow all to enjoy this delightful area in the village.

The Winnie Bowes Recreation Ground

At the top of the village and just off School Lane, the Winnie Bowes Recreation Ground has great views over the surrounding countryside.  Children have a safe and fun place to play thanks to local resident Winnie Bowes, who left a legacy in 2008 for new play equipment. Her gift inspired parents to raise funds for a total revamp, and were further helped by a generous grant from The Veolia Environmental Trust.
